Geeks Galore

Watched Star Trek on Sunday night.
After a long day of shovelling and raking, we needed a treat.

I admit, I wasn't a huge Star Trek fan as a kid.
I saw many episodes, but wasn't a loyal follower.
I wouldn't classify The Husband as a Trekkie either, but I'm sure he can hold his own with Trek Trivia.
Despite that, we both agreed it would probably be worth seeing.

And it was. Go see it.

You probably know that Leonard Nimoy had a cameo. There's a scene towards the end of the movie where Nimoy makes a comment that he won't say the line because it's self-serving. The entire audience laughed. It was funny.

But on the way out of the theatre, there were two geeks behind us who were seriously debating this scene.

"How can he say that the line is self-serving?"
"It wasn't self-serving."
"It's totally a Spock line."

And on.
And on.
And on.

I look over at The Husband.
Raise one eyebrow.
The universal symbol for WTF.
We're trying not to laugh.
I glance back to see who's talking.
Expecting the obvious.
And was disappointed.

The least they could have done was wear pointy ears.

Having watched Galaxy Quest the night before, it was exactly what I was expecting.

"You are our last hope!"

Crazy Mo...my son and I went to see Star Trek as well...since we are both sci fi fanatics...we loved it. The "Heros" guy that played spock looked just like him!

I loved, loved, loved the new Star Trek - and I'm not an original Trekkie! I was crazy about The Next Generation - but this reinvention of the original series takes the story into a brand-new direction!

I hear the new Star Trek is great. I'm not a Trekkie but I do enjoy watching the show and movies. It is funny how those two guys took the Spock dialogue so seriously. Thanks so much for your kind comment on my blog today! I always enjoy your submissions over at PP&P!

I'm looking forward to seeing this one when it comes out on DVD. I like to watch things in peace and quiet in my own house! :-)

I wasn't really a Star Trek fan either, but I thought the movie was really good. I was hoping for some trekkie costumes in the theater too, but there were only a group of girls talking about their personal lives through out most of the movie. Who pays money to see a movie only to talk through it..Ok sorry, thanks for letting me rant in your comments section.
