Sweet Alex

You may recall a previous post regarding a prompt from Pictures, Poetry & Prose. It featured my own photograph of chocolate.

Alex sent me a poem she wrote, with this message:

I'm not brave enough to blog it but I have to write it to you cuz I know you won't criticize and if you do it's okay cuz I know you love me. Yeah I know COWARD...but was too chicken to post it.

Perhaps Nephew #2 has actually inherited the writing gene from her after all.

And in case you're wondering, she does talk like that.
One giant run-on sentence, followed immediately by a deep breath.
Kidding! She's gonna smack me when she sees me later!

Chocolate

Is it sweet and sensuous,
or dark and mysterious?

Is it sinful,
or blissful?

Is it one heavenly taste,
or many pounds on your waist?

Why do you care,
go for it, I dare!

My Buffyverse

I'm looking forward to spending the day with Alex tomorrow.

Now ... as much as I'm looking forward to seeing her
(and I am, Sis, I promise!)
I'm REALLY looking forward to the return of my Buffy DVDs.

The last time Alex came over for a girls' weekend,
I lent her my Buffy the Vampire Slayer DVD set.
All seven seasons.

She's returned one through four,

but I don't want to start re-watching the series until I have all seven.

Now, for those of you who know me,
you know I'm a huge Harry Potter fan.
HUGE!

But let me tell you,
that's NOTHING compared to how much of a Buffy fan I am.
Alex texted me on a regular basis as she watched the series.
It was like watching it for the first time all over again.

By far, the funniest text was:

Buffy has a sister?! WTF????!!!

Happy Birthday, Sis!

Tomorrow is cousin Alex's birthday.
She's 25.
Again.
She's been 25 for a very long time.

So have I.
Some day we'll grow up.
Pffft.
NOT!

Alex and I call each other sister.
We each have a brother.
Mine's pretty cool.
Hers is a bit of a pooh head.
Alright.
He's a big pooh head.

But I digress.
As always.
You should be used to it by now.

Alex and I are surprisingly alike.
It's scary really.
When we're together, we finish each other's sentences.
We'll say the same thing at the exact same time.
Then laugh.

We have lots of great memories.
And we're constantly making new ones.

I remember hiding in Alex's cold room.
It was filled with the usual things.
Cans and jars of various food items.
We each took a jar of green olives.
Sat on the floor, cracked open our jars and gorged.
Until we were sick.
We still gorge on olives.

I remember sitting on the well outside the house.
Until two o'clock in the morning.
Eating all the macaroni and cheese in one sitting.
Trying on all of mom's clothes in her closet.
That was a great weekend.

I remember staying up late.
Waiting for Santa.
Hearing him on the roof.
And quickly squeezing our eyes shut.
Hoping he wouldn't notice we were still awake.

So many great memories, Sis.
And so many more to come.
You're always there for me.
You never judge.
You never scold.
You never say I told you so.
Even though you should.
To all of those things!

Thanks for everything.
Happy Birthday, Sis.
I love you!

Power Surges

Cousin Alex emailed me yesterday.

"Just came back from the doctor. It's official. I'm in menopause. Does this mean I'm all grown up now??!"

Ha! Right behind you, sweetie!!

Is it hot in here or is it just me??

Skipping down Memory Lane

This is my parents on their wedding day.
Doesn't it look like he's about to cop a feel?

See the blue bowl? They still have that.
And the teapot and the crystal bowl and the candy dish.
My mom has passed on the Friar Tuck salt and pepper shakers to me.
I have a weakness for salt and pepper shakers.

This is me. Doing my Cindy Loo Hoo impression. Frani says I still have the same dull look, especially when I'm concentrating or intently listening to someone. Honestly, could I be any cuter?!

This picture was taken outside our house in Georgetown. I was about four there. This has always been one of my favourite pictures.

I used to think, "Wow Mom! You're such a hotty. Look at you with the flirty pose. And Dad. He looks like he's about to take a bite outta you!"

Then my mom set the record straight. It seems my dad was pulling up her dress to show some leg and she's trying to pull it back down!

Little horndog!!

This is me (in the middle) with Cousin Alex.
Pay no attention to the kid on the right that I cut off in the scan.
He's Alex's older brother.
He's a poo-head.
So we're just gonna cut him off.

And, of course, the quintessential white trash picture.
This is my kid brother.
Don't judge.
It was the 70s, we did that back then.

I'm pretty sure the bottle is empty.
Then again, we are French Canadian ... you never know!
